  • I’ll be doing a d.j. gig in Co-Op City Bronx,N.Y.

    Hi everyone,i’ll be doing my first d.j. gig for the year,and i’ll be in The Co-Op City section of The Bronx,N.Y. at The Bartow Center this Saturday June 13th at 12noon.I’ll be playing music for friends and church members called The Chat & Chew Party.I’ll be posting the pictures on my Samuel Wilson,Jr:Music D.J. homepage on facebook.I’ll also be promoting my podcast to friends and church members to help them on how to listen to my podcast. The world is changing so we have to be prepared when it comes media changes and mergers.   • BREAKING MUSIC NEWS:Singer Peabo Bryson dead at 75,musician/producer Dexter Wansel dead also at 75,and singer/actor & educator Joe”The Handyman”Negri at 99.

    Hi everyone,we’re losing everyone in one week.We’ve lost 3 greats:singer Peabo Bryson,musician Dexter Wansel,and singer/actor and educator Joe”The Handyman”Negri. First:singer/actor and educator Joe “The Handyman” Negri died on Monday morning at the age of 99.He’s best remembered as Joe:The Handyman on TV’s “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood” aired on PBS from 1968 to 2000. As a kid,i had to watch PBS which includes “Mister Rogers Neighborhood”,which teaches about love,compassion,and learning to show love for your neighbors which inlcudes people of color and disablities. R.I.P. to The Handyman. On Wednesday,we lost singer Peabo Bryson at the age of 75 from suffering a stroke on Tuesday June 2nd.Representing Greenville,SC,Peabo came on the scene back in 1976 with his debut LP called “Peabo” on the Bullet label.His record was a failure on the record charts,so he switched over to Capitol Records with his breakthrough LP called “Reaching for The Sky”released back in January 1978,with hits including:Reaching For The Sky,and Feel The Fire:which was later remake by Stephanie Mills in 1979,and again in 1980 with Teddy Pendergrass.His other slow jams include:I’m So Into You,Let The Feeling Flow,Tonight[I Celebrate My Love] with Roberta Flack and others.In 1984,he switched over to Elektra/Asylum Records with his top 10 hit “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again”.He left us too soon.R.I.P Peabo. ..Last,but not least,this report just came in this morning,musician/producer Dextel Wansel died at the age of 75.He was part of The Philadelphia International Records Family.He produced music,and written songs for Patti LaBelle,Teddy Pendergrass and other. R.I.P. to Dexter Wansel.     Hi everyone,i’ve got some major breaking music news,and it’s a sad one.Singer Foster Sylvers of The Sylvers,and best remembered for his top 10 hit “Misdemeanor”has died at the age 64 from cancer. Foster was from the family group The Sylvers that made it’s debut back in the fall of 1972.In the spring of 1973,Foster has made his solo debut hit “Misdemeanor” from his self-titled debut album “Foster Sylvers” released on the Pride-MGM label.That was his only one-hit wonder.In 1976,when the family group switched to Capitol Records with their album called “Showcase”,Foster has only sung 2 tracks which includes “Boogie Fever”which went to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Singles Charts on May 15th,1976 for 1 week,and #1 on Billboard’s Soul Singles Charts on March 6,1976 for 1 week,and “Cotton Candy” went to #59 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Singles Charts and #19 on Billboard’s Soul Singles Charts. Foster Sylvers will be added on the tributes list,as part of my 3 part season finale on The Black Soul Music Experience Podcast,Tuesday June 23rd, Thursday June 25th,and Tuesday June 30th. R.I.P.   • BREAKING MUSIC NEWS:Jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins dead at 95.

    Hi everyone,i have some sad news,jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins died this morning at the age of 95.He’s best remembered for his hit “St.Thomas”.Other tunes he recorded including:Dolvy,and many other instrumentals. He was born on September 7th,1930 in New York City.He has performed at many events including performing at Carnegie Hall,The Museum of Modern Art,and many other events.He received a Grammy Lifetime Acheivement Award in 2004,that same year his wife Lucille died. Thank you Sonny for bringing us your wonderful jazz tunes,and may you rest in peace.Sonny Rollins will be added on the list of my 3 part season finale called “Tributes”,honoring our favorite singers and musicians that passed away during the 2025-2026 season.Airing on Tuesday June 23rd,Thursday June 25th,and Tuesday June 30th.   • BREAKING MUSIC NEWS:Hip-Hop artist Rob Base dead at 59.

    Hi everyone,i have some sad news to all of the old school hip-hop fans.Hip-Hop artist Rob Base died on May 22.He just turned 59 4 days ago on May 18th,and he died from cancer.He and Rodney “Skip” Bryce met in the 5th grade elementary school,and they team up to bring us their breakout hit called “It Takes Two”.The song was a smash and it went to #3 on Billboard’s Dance/Club Play singles chart.I heard this song on WBLS FM 107.5 in New York City back in June 1988.In case you may not know,it was sampled from the song called “Think[About It]” performed by the late Lyn Collins,and written & produced by the late James Brown.In case you may not know,hip-hop was influenced by the late James Brown & his band known for it’s riffs and beats.Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock had other hits including:”Get On The Dance Floor”,and “Joy & Pain”.Thank you Rob Base for bringing hip-hop into the mainstream,and may you rest in peace. Williams,Jr. My paternal great-grandfather Asbury Wilson,my paternal cousins:Earl Matthew Middleton,Julia Jefferson-Haynes,and William”Coochie”Colbert.My maternal grandfather John Henry Thomas[John Henry Gross,Jr.]my maternal Great-Uncle Astor Wilson,Sr. and my maternal cousin Clyde H. Bowles.Also to my classmates from I.S. 144 and Harry S. Truman High School in The Bronx,N.Y. and my church members at Community Protestant Church in The Co-Op City section of The Bronx,N.Y.Thank you all for your service and thank you for protecting us. Since i don’t have an episode in honor of Memorial Day,i do have an episode that i’ve aired back in March 2026 in honor of Womens History Month,and her name is Mary Stanley.I’ve met her on The Alignable Networking Event Meetings back in 2025,and yes,she has served in The U.S. Army for 15 years.Today,she’s a mother of 2 austistic children,and when i was put in a chat room with her,i can see the pain that she went thru.   • BREAKING MUSIC NEWS:Singer Clarence Carter dead at 90 and lead singer/founder Dennis Locorriere of Dr.Hook at 76/Karla Lynette’s new single drops May 30th.

    Hi everyone,i have major breaking news:sad news to report:singer Clarence Carter died at the age of 90.He’s best remembered for his 3 major hits:”Slip Away”in 1967,”Patches” in 1970,which won a Grammy Award for best songwriting written by General Johnson at the 1971 Grammy Awards,and “Strokin” in 1993. Although the song “Strokin” wasn’t a major hit,but it was a hit local black radio stations in the south,and in Washington DC.He performed the song on the special called “Old School Party”aired on PBS back in 2004. This past weekend,lead singer Dennis Locorriere died from a kidney disease at the age of 76.He was the founder of the group called Dr.Hook & The Medicine Show[later changed to Dr.Hook in 1976]The group is from Union City,N.J. made their debut back in 1972 with a song called “Sylvia’s Mother”,then their follow up “The Cover of Rolling Stone” in 1973.The group has sung different genres of music:Country Rock,Soft Rock,Blue-Eyed Soul,Pop,and Disco.Growing up,when i turned 7 years old on October 18,1973,there was a commerical from Columbia House called Monster Hits,and i saw this group,and they were wearing those funny looking clothes,and i said to myself “Are they doing a funny song that makes us laugh?”.That was the first i’ve seen that group on TV.By the mid-late 70’s,the group reorganised and kept up with the times in the disco-pop era with hits include:”If You’re In Loved With a Beautiful Woman”,”Sharing The Night Together”,and “Sexy Eyes”.Those were top 10 hits.I didn’t know that there were from New Jersey,i thought there from the south.When i found out in Wilkedpedia,the group started out in the south,and later moved up to the northeast.Rest in peace to lead singer/founder Mr.Dennis Locorriere at 76.
